Abstract

VALORE, Luciana Albanese. Vocational guidance in a psychiatric context: Contributions and challenges. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2010, vol.11, n.1, pp. 121-131. ISSN 1984-7270.

This study aimed at describing and analyzing the scope and limits of one intervention in vocational guidance with psychiatric patients just prior to their discharge from hospital. A group work, with four sessions of two hours and a half each, was done with ten psychiatric patients focusing the construction of a life project as a means of social inclusion. A new way of relationship with the future, the visualization of perspectives of life after discharging, and rescueing of self-confidence were observed to occur, thus corroborating the pertinence of such approach in the context studied. By means of the description and evaluation of that practice, we hope to contribute with discussions about the range and limits of this approach.

Keywords : Vocational guidance; Psychiatric patients; Life project; Mental health.
