Abstract

REIS, Germano Glufke; NAKATA, Lina Eiko  and  DUTRA, Joel Souza. Transformative learning and behavior change caused by career disorienting dilemmas. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2010, vol.11, n.2, pp. 243-255. ISSN 1984-7270.

The constant changes in organizations have been demanding, from professionals, the ability to learn and adapt, even in adverse situations. This paper is based on the theoretical framework of transformative learning and on the tenets of the transtheoretical model of change to investigate the way how disorienting dilemmas in careers can catalyze reflective processes and learning. Thus, a survey was conducted with 89 professionals in national and multinational companies, performing technical and leadership roles. The research showed that disorienting situations in occupational life can pose special opportunities for learning, as they can promote reflection, review of perspectives, experimentation with new behaviors, and adoption of new ways of action.

Keywords : occupational choice; professional development; social behavior; attitude change; social learning.
