The aim of this paper was to analyze the performance of educational supervisors at a multidisciplinary institute in the context of distance education. The job descriptions of educational supervisors were analyzed in a case study. Their functions included operational and strategic activities, with emphasis on their managerial skills and the technical aspects at the expense of their educational functions and political role. The study highlights the need for more room for discussion about educational supervisors, encouraging the assumption of a professional identity committed with the propositions of the knowledge society.
