Abstract

ALMEIDA, Maria Elisa Grijó Guahyba de  and  MAGALHAES, Andrea Seixas. Current Occupational choice: individual project and family project. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2011, vol.12, n.2, pp. 205-214. ISSN 1984-7270.

The present work aims at reflecting on the construction of life projects and the process of professional choice in current western society, characterized by individualistic values, such as autonomy and freedom, but having in family a sense of belonging. A theoretical discussion is developed here about the designing of life projects in the present days and its relationship with the generational transmission of professional choices within the family as based on authors from Anthropology, Sociology, and Psychology. The role of family in the professional choices of the contemporary individual, who is immersed in a field of possibilities that exists in today's work scenarios as well as the legacies and invisible loyalties transmitted throughout generations, is also discussed.

Keywords : occupational choice; life project; family; generational transmission.
