Abstract

FERNANDES, Fabiana Soares; GONCALVES, Carlos Manuel  and  OLIVEIRA, Paula Joana. Adaptation and validation of the meanings assigned to work scale - MATWS. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2012, vol.13, n.2, pp. 183-196. ISSN 1984-7270.

The present study aimed to adapt and validate the Meanings Assigned to Work Scale (MATWS) - short version - with a sample of Brazilian students. Participants were 1,448 high school students from Amazonas public and private schools, aged between 14 and 24 years (M = 17.1, SD = 1.0). Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory analysis were performed. Twenty-five items of the original scale were maintained in the short version, distributed into the same original four-factor structure. Explained variance was 46.5%. The psychometric properties have shown evidence that the MATWS is a valid reliable scale to assess the meanings attributed to work by young Brazilians.

Keywords : labour; test validity; secondary education; students; analysis factorial.
