Abstract

OLIVEIRA, Marina Cardoso de; MELO-SILVA, Lucy Leal  and  COLETA, Marília Ferreira Dela. Super's theoretical assumptions: outdated or applicable in today's vocational psychology?. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2012, vol.13, n.2, pp. 223-234. ISSN 1984-7270.

Vocational Psychology was developed with contributions from many researchers, among which Donald Super is a reference. Researchers agree on the relevance of his contributions, but there are also queries about current applicability of his theory. This study aims to describe the main assumptions of Super's theory through the Life Career Rainbow model and the Archway model, in order to reflect on the applicability of his concepts in today's Vocational Psychology. It is observed that his assumptions remain relevant for the performance of career counselors and also serve as a basis for the consolidation of new paradigms in Vocational Psychology. However, further research should be conducted in order to strengthen evidence for its applicability in current times.

Keywords : life-span; life career rainbow; archway; career adaptability; vocational maturity.
