Abstract

BEDIN, Lívia Maria; SARRIERA, Jorge Castellá  and  PARADISO, Ângela Carina. Career development of psychologists: Developmental tasks at the Establishment Stage. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2013, vol.14, n.1, pp. 87-98. ISSN 1984-7270.

The objective of this study was to understand how psychologists are experiencing developmental tasks at the career establishment stage, according to Donald Super's theory. In addition to that, we also attempted to verify the differences perceived by psychologists when performing career development tasks in the three types of work organizations (public, private or autonomous); verify the transitions within the same stage of career development and verify the relations expressed in regard to the socioeconomic context. In this research 15 psychologists aged between 30 and 38 years old were interviewed. The interview included the career development tasks: Stabilization, Consolidation and Progress. The data were analyzed by content analysis and the results showed six emerging categories related to the stage of Establishment tasks: Relationship network, Developmental process, Professional achievement, Work contracts' legalization, Performance concern and Constantly seeking of qualification.

Keywords : career development; career establishment stage; psychologist performance.
