Abstract

MOGNON, Jocemara Ferreira  and  SANTOS, Acácia Aparecida Angeli dos. Relations between academic experience and career development indicators in college students. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2013, vol.14, n.2, pp. 227-237. ISSN 1984-7270.

This study investigated the association between academic experience and career development as well as possible differences related to gender, age and stage of the course. Participants were 208 university students from two private universities in the states of São Paulo and Minas Gerais, aged 18 to 51 years, 62.5% men. The Academic Experience Questionnaire - reduced version (QVA-r) and Career Development Scales were used in this study. The results indicated weak to moderate positive correlations between academic adjustment and career development, but only the career and personal dimensions of QVA-r were predictive of career development. Statistically significant differences were observed regarding age and period of the course in both instruments.

Keywords : university environment; professional development; vocational training.
