The career guidance developed in public schools in São Paulo, when it exists or when it is constructed a space for its development, generates a historical field of dispute between pedagogues and psychologists. This essay aims to explain this question which means distinguishing the functions of the career counselor and the educational counselor in everyday life in a public school in São Paulo.
