Abstract

Donald Super, in the 1940s, commenced a tradition of research on career development that has been continued to the present day in many countries. Among the concepts suggested by Super, career adaptability has received attention from researchers and has assumed a prominent place not only in theory, but also in the context of vocational psychology in general. The objective of this paper is to present the historical evolution of the concept from the original approach of Super, to Theory of Career Construction and Life Designing model. Applications of career adaptability are discussed and questions are presented in order to instigate further investigations.
