Abstract

LEANDRO-FRANCA, Cristineide; MURTA, Sheila Giardini  and  IGLESIAS, Fabio. Planning for retirement: A scale of behavior change. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2014, vol.15, n.1, pp. 75-84. ISSN 1679-3390.

Most research on retirement planning tends to focus on attitudinal and behavioral changes, while ignoring its cognitive and motivational predictors. Two studies here detail the development and search of validity evidence for a new measure, the Scale for Behavioral Change in Retirement Planning. Study 1, conducted with a sample of 189 public servants, revealed a bifactorial solution for the 15 items: Occupational-Social Investment; and Autonomy and Well-Being. In Study 2 the utility of the scale was evaluated by a further 23 public servants. The results of both studies support the validity and reliability of the new measure for the identification of areas of higher investment, goal setting, and thoughts on changes for retirement planning.

Keywords : retirement; behavior; scale; planning.
