Abstract

LIMA, Rosário; CRUZ, Raquel Beirão da  and  RAFAEL, Manuel. The study of career concerns in counseling: a new approach to promote individual well-being. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2014, vol.15, n.2, pp. 115-125. ISSN 1679-3390.

This paper aims to study career concerns within a sample of 51 adults aged between 25 and 42 years old who requested help in career counseling and management. Participants were in several situations (studying, looking for job, unemployed or employed) and needed help concerning career choices. The instrument used was the "Adult Career Concerns Inventory". It measures the degree of concern expressed for the major development tasks, presented in stages and sub-stages, defined by Donald Super`s Career Development Model. The results show that adults have relevant concerns for other stages and sub-stages besides the one correspondent to their age group, which may be due to nowadays labor market. Some final considerations are made, such as the contribution of this exploratory study on career concerns in career counseling practice and in individuals' career planning.
