Abstract

ALBANAES, Patrícia; BARDAGI, Marucia Patta; LUCA, Gabriel Gomes de  and  GIRELLI, Scheila. From hazing to mentoring: survey of possibilities to welcome university students. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2014, vol.15, n.2, pp. 143-152. ISSN 1679-3390.

The welcoming activities may contribute to a positive approach of the student to the institution and course. In this survey, the main objective was to describe the welcoming activities for freshmen undergraduate students in courses of the Federal University of Santa Catarina, its goals, the responsible agents and perceived difficulties regarding the implementation of these activities. There were 49 respondents (students and course coordinators) participating of this study, gathering information of 42 courses through an online questionnaire. Prevalent strategies were introductory courses, as well as parties and hazing. Inconsistency of information between academic centers and coordination of some courses suggests that there is a fragility in the communication and systematization of these actions. It is argued that the commitment with the promotion of systematic strategies for the welcoming process of the freshmen is determinant to students' persistence and quality of study.
