Abstract

LAMAS, Karen Cristina Alves  and  BARBOSA, Altemir José Gonçalves. Socio-cognitive characteristics of students with giftedness and talent: comparative study. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2015, vol.16, n.1, pp. 35-48. ISSN 1679-3390.

The aim of this study was to compare personal and contextual factors and learning experiences that can contribute to the career choice among students with and without characteristics of giftedness and talent (G). Participants were 275 high school students who completed a questionnaire and instruments that assess interests, outcome expectations/values, occupational self-efficacy and career choice. Adolescents with G (9.1%) showed higher levels in some dimensions of these variables. However, when analyzing each grade, the groups were equivalent in the third year of high school for the first two variables, and in the first year in the scale of values. It was concluded that students with G need professional guidance as much as their peers.

Keywords : giftedness; occupational choice; vocational interests; self-efficacy; values.
