DAVID, Rute; PAIXAO, Maria Paula  e  SILVA, José Tomás da. Interests and perceived competencies in childhood: a study with elementary and middle school children. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2015, vol.16, n.1, pp. 49-58. ISSN 1679-3390.

Career development is a process that goes through the entire life of an individual and has its initiation set in childhood. Despite the importance of childhood, most research focused on studies with adolescents and adults, which has warned many authors about the need of developing studies in this age group. In this report, it is presented data from a study about the interests and perceived competencies of children (n = 845) from 2nd, 4th and 6th grades, using the Portuguese adaptation of the Inventory of Children's Activities - Revised (ICA-R; Tracey & Ward, 1998). The reliability of results in both scales is similar to the original North American scales. We obtained differences of gender and age on the subscales of the instrument consistent with data from earlier studies.

Palavras-chave : vocational development; childhood; interests; perceived competencies.
