We present a theoretical reflection regarding the analysis of metaphors as methodological resource for understanding careers. More specifically, we seek to: 1. elucidate the notion of metaphor, highlighting its relevance in the production of knowledge regarding the career; 2. demonstrate different metaphorical conceptions under the perspective of several authors; 3. point out the methodological procedures in the employment of metaphors as a resource for analyzing careers. We demonstrated that professionals can recursively acquire, interpret and understand the structures, processes and actions of individuals over their professional trajectories by means of metaphors. This analytical process presupposes the investigation of the career under multiple metaphorical prisms, with each presenting the possibility of producing or renovating the understanding careers.
