ZAZULA, Robson  and  APPENZELLER, Simone. Psychosocial profile of new medical students in a bilingual and multicultural university. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2019, vol.20, n.2, pp. 17-28. ISSN 1984-7270.

Admission to higher education provides transformations in students' life, requiring competences and skills in the transition and adaptation to the university. This study aimed to evaluate the profile of new medical students in a bilingual and multicultural institution related to academic experiences, social skills (SS) and quality of life (QoL). An exploratory transversal study was conducted with 61 newcomers from the same class, 57.4% Brazilian and 42.6% non-Brazilian. The results showed high levels of expectancy and (QoL), and average level of SS for all students. Non-Brazilian students showed lower average total scores than Brazilian students, with no significant difference between groups. There was an association between QoL and SS aspects for all students.

Keywords : quality of life; social skills; cultural diversity; professional adjustment.
