Abstract

MOURAO, Luciana; TRAVASSOS, Rômulo; ABBAD, Gardênia da Silva  and  CARVALHO, Luara. Evaluation of Academic Training in Psychology from graduates' perception. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2019, vol.20, n.2, pp. 43-55. ISSN 1984-7270.

This study aimed to evaluate undergraduate courses in Psychology from the graduates' perception in different career stages. Twenty-two individual interviews were conducted with three groups of participants: early-stage psychologists, mid- or late-stage psychologists, and those who hold a degree in Psychology, but do not work in this area. A semi-structured script was adopted for the interviews, which were recorded, transcribed and submitted to categorical content analysis. Notable among the results are criticisms of the training in terms of a traditional perspective, oriented toward the clinical practice with focus on individual processes. The graduates complain about the lack of development of competencies in areas such as public health, school and educational psychology, psychopathology and organizational psychology.

Keywords : professional competence; higher education; undergraduate courses in Psychology.
