Abstract

VIEIRA, Amanda Ferreira; NUNES, Maiana Farias Oliveira  and  TEIXEIRA, Marco Antônio P.. Happenstance Learning Theory: Evaluation of a career intervention with finalists’ college student. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2020, vol.21, n.2, pp. 137-149. ISSN 1984-7270.  http://dx.doi.org/10.26707/1984-7270/2020v21n202.

Happenstance learning theory seeks to explain why people make different paths during life, emphasizing chance events. This theory also serves as a foundation for practices on career guidance which makes the process of transitions easier. The objective of this paper is to present a counseling experience that used an intervention model based in happenstance learning theory, directed to university students in the end of graduation and an analysis of its efficacy. To this end, the intervention was conducted individually with four participants in the period of six weeks. Planned happenstance career inventory was used before and after the intervention and a reaction interview was also conducted. In short, the intervention had impact on the perception and attention to the career opportunities, requiring further applied studies of this theory in Brazil.

Keywords : vocational guidance; professional development; university-to-work transition; college students.
