Abstract

TELLES, Marta Maria; SANTOS, Marina Miranda Lery  and  CUNHA, Cristiane Pessôa da. Military career at the Aeronautics Institute of Technology: social representations of incoming students. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2021, vol.22, n.2, pp. 203-214. ISSN 1984-7270.  http://dx.doi.org/10.26707/1984-7270/2021v22n207.

The objective of the study was to investigate, under the Social Representation Theory, the factors that guided the professional choice of university students for the military engineering career at the Aeronautics Institute of Technology and what are their concerns and fears regarding the chosen profession. Thirty one freshman students were interviewed in the years 2018 and 2019. For data processing, the NVivo12 software was used, which is based on content analysis. The results showed that the social representation of the military career is built amid a constant review of the choices for the future, and the place given to it in the professional trajectory depends on confidence, utility and the relationship established between happiness and work.

Keywords : occupational choice; college students; life project; occupational aspirations; social representation.
