MENDONCA, Maria Emília. The theory of personal maturity of D. W. Winnicott and physiotherapy. Winnicott e-prints [online]. 2008, vol.3, n.1e2, pp. 1-30. ISSN 1679-432X.

This article proposes a dialogue between the physiotherapy and the theory of D. W. Winnicott, in particular, his conception of partnership between psyche-soma in health. We present the first stages of personal development, as suggested by Winnicott in his article Physical Therapy and Human Relations (1969g/1994), as a perspective for thinking somatic care. A brief overview of the practice and the training of therapists shows their dilemmas and questions, including those arising from the patient’s difficulty in relating with his own body, which can lead to stagnation or cessation of treatment, recurrence of symptoms, defensiveness and/or aggressiveness, appearance of regressed and depressive states, among others. The physical therapist had not being educated to understand and tolerate these aspects, which justifies his search for subsidies in psychoanalysis Winnicott
