Abstract

FONSECA, Maria Cecilia Schiller Sampaio. A clinical case of impotence. Winnicott e-prints [online]. 2011, vol.6, n.2, pp. 51-61. ISSN 1679-432X.

Based on a clinical case I approach the emergence of impotence in a young man as a protection mechanism (defense) facing an invasive father. This work is based on the theoretical hypotheses, posed by D. W. Winnicott, on the role of the father in the development process. The case presented shows how distortions in the parental function had a traumatic effect on the patient, who was left without the required confidence to face adolescence. This situation led to a substantial regression, which had to be relived in the analytical process.

Keywords : impotence; collapse; invasive father; Winnicott.
