Abstract

This work proposes a reflection on the role of a traumatic subjective constitution in the choice of a profession marked by the care with the other. For such, the ideas of Sándor Ferenczi and Donald Winnicott were elected for the comprehension of the material produced by a young Medicine student through a semi-directed interview. From her reports, especially about the lack of parental care and the high degree development of an intellectualized and rather insensitive personality, a maturation marked by the defensive cleavage of the personality. Such condition would be related to the propension of caring with the other that, along with the identificatory importance that the medical professionals were invested in the childhood of the young student, had an admitted influence in her professional choice.
