BELO, Maria do Rosário. The Sandman and other stories: a family dynamic interpretation based on Winnicott thoughts or the world taken in small portions. Winnicott e-prints [online]. 2012, vol.7, n.2, pp. 132-165. ISSN 1679-432X.

The author proposes the possibility of the family participation - with emphasis on the father - in the baby's "subjective life" in agreement with Winnicottian concepts of "absolute dependence", "subjective environment" and "good enough mother". In this text all the following terms have the same meaning: "subjective life", "subjective environment ", "subjective world" and "subjective reality". Therefore, respecting the Winnicottian principles present in the "Theory of Maturing". The author proposes that the "elements" that allow the subsequent separation processes, differentiation and access to "objective reality" ("shared reality"), are present from the beginning (from the stage of "absolute dependence") in the baby's life. After these considerations, the author proposes the failure of these "primary elements" (considered facilitators of future processes of "separation", "differentiation" and access to "shared reality") as favoring the formation of personality's ("confusionals") psychotic nuclei. These hypotheses are illustrated by the well known tale written by Hoffmann, "The sandman" (2005) and the author's own psychoanalytic practice.
