Abstract

BARBOSA, Luanna  and  BIZERRIL, José. The envoy: an interface between psychopathology and spirituality. Mental [online]. 2006, vol.4, n.6, pp. 85-106. ISSN 1679-4427.

This case study analyzes the interpretative limitations of psychopathological criteria. The objective is to analyze the so-called psychotic phenomena in the field of spirituality - since the subject possesses characteristics that can be seen both by medical and religious perspectives, in a context of popular Christian symbolism, inserted simultaneously in a indiosyncratic and typical prophetical experience, in a reality of dissidence and social marginality. Avoiding the debate on the objectivity of his speech, one aims to produce intelligibility concerning his experience, based on practical relativism (JACKSON, 1996), on the interconnection between spirituality and psychopathology (FULFORD, 2003), on the social construction of madness (Foucault, 2002, 2004), on antipsychiatry (COOPER, 1989; LAING, 1988; BASAGLIA, 2004), on the liminality (TURNER, 1974) and on the theory of the subjectivity (GONZALEZ-REY, 2005).

Keywords : Anthropology of the religion; Zones of meaning; Psychiatry and antipsychiatry; Schizophrenia; Liminality.
