Abstract

GONTIJO, Eduardo Dias. The terms 'ethic' and 'moral'. Mental [online]. 2006, vol.4, n.7, pp. 127-135. ISSN 1679-4427.

The paper is concerned with the application of the terms 'ethics' and 'moral', which are often used to refer to the same field of knowledge and phenomena. Initially, we will try to demonstrate their original synonymy, based on their etymological roots. Afterwards, some nuances of meaning will be explored, regarding Hegel´s critique of Kant´s practical philosophy. Finally, the current prevalence of the term 'ethics' in the ethos of pos-modernity will be discussed.

Keywords : Ethics; Moral; Etimologia; Moral philosophy; After-modernity.
