Abstract

MATTOS, Ricardo Mendes; HELOANI, Roberto  and  FERREIRA, Ricardo Franklin. The worker as homeless: some contemporary collective actions. Mental [online]. 2008, vol.6, n.10, pp. x-xx. ISSN 1679-4427.

Homelessness is a growing phenomenon in large Brazilian cities. The homeless population is partly constituted by workers who have been deprived of jobs. Thus, this study aims to discuss the relationship between homelessness and work in three distinct moments. The first moment points to unemployment as the reason for homelessness, especially during the 1990s, when the São Paulo homeless population almost tripled. The second moment refers to types of work performed by the homeless. And finally, the third moment evaluates to what extent work idiosyncrasies can act as a form of stopping homelessness, especially based on solidary economies proposals.

Keywords : Homelessness; Work; Social psychology; Solidary Economics.
