This work analyses the incidence of the scholarly discourse and the university discourse in the current Brazilian Psychiatric Reform, as well as the contribution the psychoanalyst’s discourse can offer to such reform. To develop our proposal, we discuss a nuance of the term psychiatric reform in the history of psychiatry. We use Lacan’s theory to discuss the four discourses theory and to comment about a clinical case originated from an experience in a Brazilian Psychiatric Reform institution, the so called therapeutic residence. The observations are analyzed in relation to the Lacanian concept of discourses through which it is possible to discuss the psychoanalytical thesis on social bonds.
