Abstract

SILVA, Gustavo Vieira da  and  PINHEIRO, Nadja Nara Barbosa. "Before the name": articulations between anxiety and psychosomatic phenomena in Freud and Winnicott. Mental [online]. 2010, vol.8, n.15, pp. 195-214. ISSN 1679-4427.

The paper presents the relation between anxiety and psychosomatic phenomena in Freud's and Winnicott's work. Freud indicates a somatic sexual participation in the origin of anxiety, locating it on the border between soma and psyche, as an affect that funds the subjectivity. Winnicott presents an interface between unthinkable anxiety and psychosomatic integration by stressing the necessity of an environmental holding to make it possible the rising of a body limit and a psychosomatic integration. So, it is proposed that some sufferings are related to the border between soma and psyche for which the interpretation, as a clinical tool, becomes inadequate. At the end, some reflections on psychoanalytic clinic to psychosomatic phenomena are presented.

Keywords : Anxiety; psychosomatic phenomena; Freud; Winnicott.
