This study aimed to identify ways of mental health care operated by relatives of severe mental disorder patients/SMDP living in rural zone located at the backwoods of Paraiba. The research was developed with eleven families in rural communities. Methodologically, we conduct home visits and semistructured interviews. Results indicated the use of religious, occupational, pharmacological and community resources, along to carriers to SMDP. The lack of financial, transportation and hospitalization resources put away relatives from psychosocial support network, especially the local CAPS. This research has highlighted the importance of caregivers and the difficulties imposed on the organization of the network of psychosocial support as accessibility and as resoluteness in rural areas.
