Abstract

ROCHA, Daniela Dias da et al. Feelings experienced by nursing professionals in the face of death in neonatal. Mental [online]. 2017, vol.11, n.21, pp. 546-560. ISSN 1679-4427.

In the context of care institutions, death happens often in the Intensive Care Units (ICUs) and the fact to be concerned with final situations belongs daily to nursing professionals who are active in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs). This article had as purpose: to know the feelings living by the nursing professionals who deal with death in the NICUs, to report the perceptions of those professionals as they deal with death in those Units and to review the aspects connected to the deadness topic by the rise of the academics. The article consists of a constitutive review from the literature, what enables to determine the current knowledge about the chosen subject. It was used the data base BIREME to refer for this study. It concluded, although death being part of the natural cycle of life, most of the nursing professionals cannot deal with the end of life in the NICUs. To know and think about the nurses' feelings in front of death by the neonatal patient, can help the professionals to face it by a more balanced way. It is also evident the need to develop initiatives that could include the constructive knowledge base and professionals who are active in health care institutions. The insertion of Thanatology on the curriculum planning and in capacity and improving courses for the nursing team can configure strategies that promote the strengthening of the professionals to face the process of death.
