This study aims to give a reflection on fatherhood in the current scenario since it is understood that there are various challenges in relation to the place of the father in the family context. Therefore, a brief historical review about the alterations of the family over the years was performed. We think it is essential to reflect upon these changes, as they also refer to reflections on the very concept of parental roles. Then, we tried to understand the different nuances that the father figure has assumed in different sociocultural and historical contexts, and as it is understood today, by highlighting the problem of the absent father. We understand that to rescue the father's presence in the family by questioning his absence is a task that challenges parents and all those who are involved in family related issues.
