Abstract

This article proposes a critical reflection on the issues involved in adoption process, Several present-day studies on adoption are taken as theoretical references for the understanding of the consequences of living in orphanages, as well as inclusion in foster families, in chidren´s subjective development. Through Winnicott´s contributions it aims to understand the maturation process of sheltered children, and their relationship with the environment. The mediator role played by Psychologists between the prospective parents and the child to be adopted is highlighted. A case of unsuccessful adoption is presented as an example of the importance of this role.
