ZANCAN, Natália; WASSERMANN, Virginia  and  LIMA, Gabriela Quadros de. Domestic violence from the perception of battered women. Pensando fam. [online]. 2013, vol.17, n.1, pp. 63-76. ISSN 1679-494X.

This paper aims to understand women's perception of intimate partner violence. In accordance with qualitative methodological approach, the study was conducted with the participation of four women who answered to a personal and socio-demographic data sheet and a semi-structured interview. The information obtained through the interviews have been coded into answers categories using content analysis technique. It was identified that violence represents to women the fear of threats, and staying in a relationship is due to a hope for change in the spouse's behavior. Alcohol and/or other drugs use and the jealousy by the partner, as well as the presence of violence in the family of origin, are factors related to the actual violence.

Keywords : Violence against women; Domestic violence; Perception of suffered violence.
