Abstract

NEUMANN, Angélica Paula  and  ZORDAN, Eliana Piccoli. Reverberations of parental divorce on fraternal relationship. Pensando fam. [online]. 2013, vol.17, n.2, pp. 35-47. ISSN 1679-494X.

The aim of this study was to investigate the reverberations of parental divorce in sibling’s relationships. The sample was composed by three pairs of teenage brothers, aged from 13 to 16 years, children of divorced parents. The instruments used were a questionnaire about family configuration, a semi-structured interview and Familiogram. Data analysis was performed by Content Analysis. Findings indicate that the family structure, the emotional patterns and the way parents have dealt with marital disruption and have reorganized coparental relations are factors that influence on fraternal relationship after divorce. It’s also important to consider the specificities of adolescence. When parents maintain functional parental relations after divorcing, their children are free to move on with their developmental tasks.
