Abstract

VERZA, Fabiana; SATTLER, Marli Kath  and  STREY, Marlene Neves. Mother, woman and householder: perspective of gender in family therapy. Pensando fam. [online]. 2015, vol.19, n.1, pp. 46-60. ISSN 1679-494X.

This study aimed at comprehending how monoparental families headed by women are organized, and in which ways gender questions influence interventions in family therapy. From this investigation, we intended to seek contributions that help to understand such family configurations at a clinical and psychosocial level. This study has a qualitative approach and an exploratory-descriptive design. Based on a research in the literature about female monoparenting and family therapy, our objective was to find associations between the theoretical framework and the accounts of a monoparental mother in clinical care in a family therapy institute from Porto Alegre-RS. We used the discourse analysis method proposed by Gill (2002) to evaluate the data. The results indicate that the female leading role in a family involves aspects related to the managing of social, affective and professional life of women and it is crossed by gender issues.

Keywords : Female monoparenting; Family; Family therapy.
