Abstract

WASEDA, Daniela et al. Female homosexual couples: demands of family life cycle and social acceptance. Pensando fam. [online]. 2016, vol.20, n.2, pp. 115-131. ISSN 1679-494X.

This work consists in a qualitative study about the relational and relevant demands of family life cycle of female same-sex couples with a new-paradigm systemic theoretical frame. The adopted method was the multiple-case study, which involved biographical interview, semi-structured interview and a questionnaire about cycle life of Brazilian family, adapted from Cerveny and Berthoud. Interviews were audiotaped, fully transcribed and submitted to thematic content analysis. The study showed that women couples who marry and/or build stable relationships today experience challenges similar to heterosexual couples. It is different the importance of social network for the reception and belonging to a group and the experience of prejudice by participants. Thus, it is important that professionals understand the interactional dynamics of couples who search them, regardless of the sexual orientation of the partners, for the development of appropriate and evidence-based therapeutic practices.
