This study aimed to understand how children and their mothers assess parental imprisonment and its effects on family dynamics and child development. Participated three children, with ages between seven and nine, being two of them sisters and two mothers. The instruments used were a semi-structured interview and the game time diagnosis. The analysis was based on multiple cases study. The results indicated that the imprisonment of the father figure produces great impact on the relationship between parents and children, either by physical distance, the emotional deprivation and even for financial reasons. In addition, treatment for mothers and children in prisons, as well as inspection procedures to which they are subject, deserve the attention of health professionals.
