Abstract

VILELA, Nágila Giovanna Silva  and  LOURENCO, Mariane Lemos. Work-family conflict: a multiple case study with working women. Pensando fam. [online]. 2018, vol.22, n.2, pp. 52-69. ISSN 1679-494X.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the sources of work-family conflict experienced by women workers in the industrial sector, according to the time, tension and behavior dimensions proposed by Greenhaus and Beutell (1985), aspects that relate to family dynamics. The research is qualitative and descriptive and the data were obtained through interviews with fifteen women workers from three Brazilian industries. The analysis was from content analysis. The results revealed that the main source of work-family conflict is time (long working hours, overtime and children), followed by tension (dealing with people, great demands of activities, lack of organization of these demands by the bosses and overload) and behavior (it didn’t appear to be a source of work-family conflict, since most women can adjust their behaviors to the different roles imposed on them). At the end, suggestions for future research are presented.
