This research investigated the social support network of families with institutionalized children from two case studies, one with a mother and the other with a grandmother who respectively had their daughter and grandchild in institutional care. With the use of field diary, document analysis, semi-structured interview and the Map of the Five Fields, the results can be formulated, which indicated incipient care practices in the construction of the participants' networks, in which both the number of that the family is the main support perceived by the participants and at the same time it is where there are more conflicts. It was concluded that few people were part of the social support network of these families, which contributed to the situation of vulnerability.
