This article discusses the influence of the family on the professional choice of the children, specifically in the adolescence phase, the most common and appropriate period for the experience of this process. A theoretical study was conducted addressing the themes adolescence, professional choice and family. From the analysis, it emerged that family influence is a determining factor in choice. In addition, the adolescence is a phase of several changes and definitions that also cause anguish for the young, and among them is the professional choice, which demands to know about the area of work, work routine, salary and all aspects that accompany the professional life of the subject in the Brazilian and contemporary context. The importance of the therapist and the family therapy in the process of accompaniment of families who experience the stage of the professional choice of the sons, so that, attentive to the fact, they can act as facilitators in facing the changes in course.
