Abstract

AFONSO, Tatiana; CUNHA, Katiane da Costa; PONTES, Fernando Augusto Ramos  and  SILVA, Simone Souza da Costa e. Maternal perception about child care with cerebral palsy: the importance of support. Pensando fam. [online]. 2019, vol.23, n.2, pp. 177-190. ISSN 1679-494X.

This research aimed to understand the perceptions of mothers of children with Cerebral Palsy (CP) about the daily care. Thirteen mothers of children diagnosed with CP aged 0-12 years that living in the metropolitan region of Belém-PA were interviewed. The study was approved by the ethics committee of the Institute of Health Sciences of the Federal University of Pará - ICS, obtaining a favorable opinion (number 473.140). The data were analyzed under the inspiration of Grounded Theory, generating a main category dedicated to the following codes: lonely practices, practices (fear of diagnosis, seizures and future), support (lack of guidance) and support (professional care). It was concluded that the management of practices and support led to different trajectories: those in which mothers received support and those less supported, in this, the trajectory was marked by ruptures and feelings of loneliness.

Keywords : Cerebral palsy; Mothers; Child care; Support network; Grounded theory.
