Abstract

It can be understood that marital separation affects the family life cycle, especially when it involves the exercise of parenting. This qualitative and exploratory study aimed to discuss the experience of shared custody from the perspective of divorced mothers and fathers. The research included three fathers and three mothers divorced with children up to eleven years old, with shared custody regime. The instruments utilized were a sociodemographic questionnaire and an individual interview. The data was analyzed through thematic content analysis. The participants indicated difficulties in implementing the shared custody in the family daily life. Unresolved aspects of the marital relationship compromise the coparental relationship. It can be highlighted the role of Psychology in broadening the discussions about parental coexistence and applicability of shared custody.
