Abstract

CAMPEOL, Ângela Roos  and  PEREIRA, Caroline Rubin Rossato. Divorce in a context of shared custody: the children’s view. Pensando fam. [online]. 2021, vol.25, n.2, pp. 195-207. ISSN 1679-494X.

This study sought to understand the experiences of children about their parents’ separation in the context of shared custody. The study was characterized as qualitative and exploratory and focused on the child's perceptions of divorce and family relations in the post-divorce period. Four children participated in the research. The children were between the ages of six and eleven years old and their parents had established shared custody. For the data collection, the children answered the Story Drawing with theme and a semi-structured interview, and the mothers answered a Sociodemographic Questionnaire. From Content Analysis, it could be understood that men were poorly accessible to child care in the post-divorce. The children also portrayed lack of information about divorce and shared custody. Thus, the results support the importance of investing in practices aimed at maintaining parental bonds in post-divorce.
