Abstract

ROTTENBACHER DE ROJAS, Jan Marc. National identity and the appreciation of history in a sample of public school teachers of the city of Lima. Liberabit [online]. 2009, vol.15, n.2, pp. 75-82. ISSN 1729-4827.

This study analyzes the relation between national identity and the appreciation of Peruvian history in a sample of public school teachers from the city of Lima. Adapted versions of the NATID Scale (Keillor et al., 1996) and the CSES Scale (Luhtanen, & Crocker, 1992) are used as measure of national identity. National pride and personal interest to know about Peruvian history are variables also included in this study. Appreciation of historical figures is more positive than appreciation of historical events. National identity and appreciation of Peruvian historical figures are positive associated.A multiple linear regression model is proposed in this study. In this model, appreciation of cultural heritage and national pride influences a positive appreciation of historical figures.

Keywords : National identity; National Pride; Collective Self-Esteem; Appreciation of History.
