Abstract

The paper discusses the relationships between emotion regulation and social competence in childhood. A brief background regarding the origins of the interest in this subject and some of the reasons that justifies its relevance are presented. Afterwards, the construct are analyzed and delimitated, pointing out some of the controversies related with the definitions and highlighting the most relevant elements. This analysis is then linked with empirical findings that support the independence of the constructs. Finally, some practical, conceptual, and methodological considerations are proposed with the purpose of contributing to the researchers on this field.
