Abstract

PUGET, Janine. Detach oneself as a decision: to be separated. Vínculo [online]. 2006, vol.3, n.3, pp. 1-12. ISSN 1806-2490.

Those problems that lead couples to think that separating might be the right thing to do can be one of the many paths toward the incorporation of new meanings to a basic notion in the constitution of a link, namely, the space between two. To add meaning to this space of tension that exists between two alterities, the analysis of the concepts of Emptiness, Lack, and Nothingness is suggested. This paper also asks what happens when the power to produce a link is lost, and how to activate it again. Based on this question, the difference between separation as recovery of the space between two and separation as the decision to break the link is analyzed. A series of clinical vignettes follow that illustrate the paper's thesis.

Keywords : Between two; Emptiness; Lack; Presentation.
