Resumen

FERNANDES, Waldemar José. Reflections about my work with dynamic psychiatry. Vínculo [online]. 2007, vol.4, n.4, pp. 58-69. ISSN 1806-2490.

Initially, the author introduces the theme of traditional psychiatry and its trajectory, adding his frustration with the directions of modern medicine; an immediatist science, with a plethora of diagnosis and with a tendency to treat everything with anti-depressants. A brief history is then presented, with an emphasis in Kraepelin, the biological psychiatry, the Freudian contributions and those of Roudinesco, being reminded that in the development of psychiatric diseases, there are the emotional factors, the degeneration of brain cells, determined by constitutional factors and also those unleashing everyday. After that, aspects about the dynamic psychiatry are presented, up to the contribution of Gabbard, who conceptualizes it as an approach to diagnosis and treatment, characterized by an specific way to reflect about the patient, the doctor, which includes the unconscious conflict, the deficits, the distortions in intrapsychic structures and the internal objective relations, noting that a parallel is also made with concepts of linking psychoanalysis. To conclude, the author shows how he understands and works in dynamic psychiatry, expressing his reflections about it. There is no doubt that the biological and chemical approaches are very important to the understanding of the human behavior, but they can’t comprehend or explain everything. The proposition is that it is possible to try to help those who seek us - so as to reflect, to acquire self-knowledge, to strengthen themselves in their existence, which includes an upgrade on the quality of life and the overcoming of symptoms, when this is possible; when it isn’t, its mitigation and the management of the capacity of living daily with the suffering, seem a reasonable choice.
