Abstract

SOUZA, Laura Vilela e. Social anxiety: construction of a group space of communication and security. Vínculo [online]. 2011, vol.8, n.1, pp. 15-21. ISSN 1806-2490.

The group therapy reported here was proposed for young students diagnosed with Social Anxiety Disorder. Eight youths were invited to participate. In this study we attempted to discuss how the emotional dynamics in the first sessions of this group participated in the testing of the group as a promoter of safety and change for its participants. The fourth meeting of this group was selected for analysis by the prominence of its contents on the distress of these young people's participation in this group, the difficulty in talking and seeking opportunities to interact. The theoretical framework of psychoanalysis based the interpretation of the material. The construction of the group space as transformative was negotiated in this group session, and at times dominated the hopelessness, the mechanism of defense and resistance. At other times, the desire to know each other and not save their problems for themselves anymore appeared, opening the possibility of experiencing the group in its therapeutic effects.
