CASTANHO, Pablo. An Introduction to the Operative Groups: Theory and Technique. Vínculo [online]. 2012, vol.9, n.1, pp. 47-60. ISSN 1806-2490.

There are many professionals who work with small groups nowadays in Brazil and around the world. At least among us, such work is very frequently conducted empirically, with no reference to any group theory. The Operative Group approach is very commonly mentioned in such work, but not much known in reality. Even when the professional is committed to start learning about it, she (or he) usually has major difficulties in integrating the knowledge available in the texts in Portuguese into his work. This paper represents a strategy for a very first, short and practical introductory reading on Operative Groups. We aim at a synthetic and functional selection of concepts, notions and assumptions which structure the Operative Group’s theory and the Learning Operative Group technique. Such elements are presented in their relation to other theories and especially in relation to the psychoanalytical perspective on groups. We thus introduce the Operative Groups committed to its practical value and highlighting its historical insertion in the branch of group psychoanalysis.
